🏆 The Superlatives 🏆

We are doing things a little differently this week. Instead of a best and worst superlative, we want to just give a couple kiddos kudos because we love the kids!

Most Promising Sports Journalist

If you caught any Super Bowl LVIII Opening Night interviews, you know that 11-year-old Jeremiah Fennell stole the show! Jeremiah started pursuing a sports journalism career at the age of 7 because he was unable to participate in contact sports due to health reasons. His love for football and the Oakland Raiders inspired him to follow his dream. Jeremiah has interviewed a number of NFL players and continues to impress the players and the fans with his professionalism. We are excited to continue to follow his sports journalism career!

Most Likely to be a Future NFL Football Player

Taking a page out of his father’s book, Aaiden Diggs, Trevon Diggs’ 7-year-old son, has declared his intention to be drafted by the Dallas Cowboys with a five-year contract for $50M in a recently posted video. Trevon secured a 5-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys worth $97M last summer. The seven-year-old also showed that he is prepared to talk trash on the field like a pro as he called out NY Jets player Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner for talking trash about his uncle, Stefon Diggs, who plays for the Buffalo Bills. It looks like Aaiden plans to keep football in the family, and we can’t wait to see him fulfill those dreams!

🏀 Trading Places: The NBA trade deadline was this week, and many [not so] interesting switcheroos have gone down around the league. The dumpster fire better known as the Detroit Pistons have traded away Monte Morris, Alec Burks, and Bojan Bogdanovic, acquiring the likes of Simone Fontecchio from the Utah Jazz, Shake Milton from the Minnesota Timberwolves, and a bevy of individuals from the New York Knicks, including Evan Fournier and Quentin Grimes. Guess their front office isn’t quite ready to abandon ship. Good for them…maybe this will help keep them afloat until they draft more help. SOS!

The Boston Celtics have acquired Xavier Tillman from the Memphis Grizzlies, and we’re sure Marcus Smart is in a corner crying, “How come they don’t want me?”

Gif from the Fresh Prince of BelAir with Will Smith breaking down and saying "How come he don't want me man?"

Don’t worry, Marcus, it’s less about you and more about the Boston Celtics needing someone to give their injury-prone glass unicorn, Kristaps Porzingis, a break.

Last month, the Miami Heat sent [former] NBA champ and [former] All-Star Kyle Lowry up the river…well, up to the Charlotte Hornets, and received Terry Rozier in return. Scary Terry will undoubtedly fit in with their rough and tumble, fight for every point, grind hard mentality in Miami. It appears that the Godfather, Pat Riley, is still out here making offers that others can’t refuse

Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets have sent Gordon Hayward packing. His next destination? Oklahoma City!  In return, the Hornets get Tre Mann and Davis Bertans. After many injuries, it seems that Hayward has finally fallen upon some good luck! Going from the 13th-seeded team in the East to the 1st-seeded team in the West is definitely a come-up.

Many Other Trades Happened: Pat Beverly is now on the Bucks, PJ Washington has moved to the Mavericks, and Buddy Hield is now a 76er. It’s all as scrambled as the eggs on those struggle plates y’all be posting.

🏀 The Harder They Fall: The Philadelphia Sixers are struggling now that their big man and star player, Joel Embiid, is out after having surgery for his lateral meniscus injury. The timeline for his return is still taking shape, but one thing’s for sure: his hopes for another MVP trophy are going slowly down the drain. With the NBA’s new player participation rules, Embiid might not meet the requirement of playing 65 games this season. That sucks, considering his stats are better than they were last season when he was crowned league MVP. Well, children, guess those attendance awards matter after all.

🏒 We’ve Come to the End of the Road: The Edmonton Oilers’ winning streak has come to an end. After winning 16 games consecutively, the Oilers fell just one game short of tying the record for the longest winning streak in NHL history. But, alas, they lost 3-1 to the Vegas Golden Knights. Maybe they got distracted by all the Super Bowl festivities in Vegas this week?

🏈 Game Time, Baby: It’s Super Bowl Weekend! Whether you’re watching for the game, the funny commercials, or the halftime show -be sure to tune in to CBS to watch Super Bowl LVIII (That’s 58 for those of y’all who still can’t interpret Roman numerals) this Sunday, February 11, at 6:30pm ET!

Both the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers have been spending all their time preparing for the big game during their bye week, which means there are no football recaps today. But to help prep you for the game, here is one of our fav Usher playlists!

Speaking of Usher…have you seen him in the new Skims campaign? 👀 You’re welcome.

Daddy Lessons and Lessons for Dad: It’s always lovely to see a parent celebrate the success of their children… but Patrick Mahomes’ dad, Patrick Mahomes Sr, may have taken that celebration a bit too far. It was reported that Patrick Mahomes Sr was arrested for a DUI on Saturday, February 3, 2023. This comes a week before his son plays in his 4th Super Bowl, seeking his 3rd Super Bowl ring. Hopefully, the proud dad can still join in on the Super Bowl celebrations in Vegas and, more importantly, get the help he needs to stay off the streets after he’s had a few drinks.

That’s so fetch: After a thrilling 60-point game (and loss) against the Atlanta Hawks, Golden State Warriors’ star Steph Curry was pictured giving his game-worn jersey to Lindsay Lohan and Mr. Lindsay Lohan. The exchange sent the internet into a frenzy as online onlookers tried to connect the dots. It turns out that Steph Curry and Mrs. Steph Curry are godparents to Lohan’s son. Apparently, Lindsay and Ayesha (Mrs. Steph Curry) are in an upcoming Netflix film together… but if it’s not Mean Girls, we’re not watching. Regardless, we’re sure that the Currys aren’t like those regular godparents. They’re cool godparents. IYKYK.

Your sports term of the week is: center!

The Center is a position held by a football player with a very important role. This player lines up in the middle of the offensive line and snaps the football between their legs to the quarterback to start each offensive play. They are also responsible for telling their fellow offensive linemen who to block.

The easiest way to explain the importance here is that it’s the player on the field that does the bennnnd and snap!

In Their Denim Era

This Louis Vuitton Damier Classic Jacket has quickly become a favorite around the sports world!

We’re not sure who stole who’s look, but both the Warriors’ player Draymond Green and the Lakers’ LeBron James were seen strutting into the arena wearing the LV threads:

Memphis Grizzlies' Marcus Smart leaned more into the matchy-matchy look and rocked both pieces of the ensemble:

The denim trend has transcended leagues, as evidenced by NHL Boston Bruins player David Pastrňák, who was seen mixing denim prints by pairing this Louis Vuitton DNA Leaf Denim jacket with floral denim pants.
