🏆 The Superlatives 🏆

The Flyest Mascot: Ellie the Elephant

Big Ellie
not the little one, has made many-a-headlines throughout the WNBA season. From fashion statements to dance routines the NY Liberty basketball team has hit gold when it comes to their fan engagement with beloved Ellie. We love it, Ellie, girl -keep doing your big one, sis!

The Mascot that Flys: Freddie the Falcon

The Atlanta Falcons said we might lose
but we will do it with flair. Freddie the Falcon, the Atlanta Falcons mascot, now holds the Guinness World Record for the highest indoor rope swing drop. Too bad the players didn’t keep their end of the bargain and rise to the occasion by winning
 But keep flying high Freddie.

🏈 The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly: And just like that week 1 of football concluded and we have just entered into week 2. Let’s go over a few highlights from week 1, shall we?

The Good

  • CJ Stroud and the Houston Texans looked as good as we thought they would in week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts. Did y’all see that run game? Looks like the Texans put in work to develop a few new tricks this season. Houston Texans took the victory (29) v Indianapolis Colts (27). This was the Colts' 11th straight year losing in week 1 so their loss unfortunately isn’t shocking although QB Anthony Richardson did have a 60-yard TD that was quite impressive.

  • Monday night’s game was much anticipated as 40-year QB, Aaron Rodgers, took the field for the first time post-injury last season. Despite the Jets' loss to the very well-oiled San Fran 49ers machine, we have to admit that A-Rod’s arm was looking pretty good
it’s the rest of the Offensive line that needs some work. Ultimately Brock Purdy and his 9ers gang beat the Jets with a final score of 32-19

The Bad

  • The Pittsburgh Steelers (against the Falcons) and the Chicago Bears (against the Tennessee Titans) both won their games
but only with the help of their special teams and defense
because both of their offenses decided to take the day off. But shout out to Mr. Bile, aka Jonathan Owens, for his first TD as a Chicago Bear -we support kids from the Lou over this way!

The Ugly

  • There was nothing more NAUSTY than the beating that the Carolina Panthers took when they were eviscerated by the New Orleans Saints 10-47. There isn’t much more to say about the game tbh
. but if you are one of those people who can’t stop watching a trainwreck, find the highlights here. But if you get secondhand embarrassment easily, just take our word for it. Like just throw the whole team & staff away and start over.

đŸŽŸ Gotta Be Having DĂ©jĂ  vu: The US Open has ended, and the winners are: Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka. Not an American in sight. Now, if you’re thinking you’ve seen this movie before, you’re not wrong. This exact same script played out in the first Grand Slam of the 2024 season when these two also won the Australian Open. While the Americans they battled, Taylor Fritz and Jessica Pegula, put up valiant efforts, it would seem that they all finished the season the way they started.

Either way, congrats to the winners! We’d love to say we’re surprised, but no one needed a crystal ball to see this coming.

🏅 His and Hers Golds: Paralympic athlete, Hunter Woodhall, won gold in the 400m race, and now has matching 2024 gold medals with his wife, Tara Davis-Woodhall. Hunter ran the race with a time of 46.36 and leveled up from his 2020 Paralympic bronze in the same event. His wife and fellow gold medalist was there to celebrate his achievement in a moment that parroted the embrace shared when Tara won her gold. What we wanna know is
who copied who? Jk
All we know for sure is these two are definitely #couple golds
we mean goals
or maybe a bit of both!

🎬 Going Live in
3,2,1:  Shannon Sharpe has found himself in a bit of a scandal. Sharpe accidentally went on IG Live while in the throes of passion with one of his lady friends. While, thankfully, there were not any visuals, the audio was very clear. Despite his team jumping in to imply that his account had been hacked, he has since admitted on Club Shay Shay that it was definitely him
And America, he definitely did have sexual relations with that woman.

He has since apologized for letting down his fans and co-workers
and ESPN has let him keep his job. But, if a woman did the same thing
nvm. Good for him and the network for not punishing people for mistakes regardless of how
scandalous they may be. Now somebody go teach Uncle Shannon how social media works.

đŸ’ȘđŸœ Early Retirement: At the end of the 2023 season, former veteran quarterback Teddy Bridgewater retired from the NFL. During a recent podcast interview, Teddy explained that his decision to retire from football was due to the seriousness of his injuries over the years. He specifically talked about how waking up concussed in a hospital bed pushed him to hang his cleats up for good. After nine seasons in the NFL on a number of teams, Bridgewater has returned to his roots and is coaching football at his high school alma mater Miami Northwestern Senior High School. So far he has led the team to victory in their season opener. We hope he and the kids keep up the good work!

🐬 Buy Your Way Outta Jail, But You Can’t Buy Freedom: Before a football was ever formally snapped on the first Sunday of this year’s season, chaos had already ensued. Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins was pulled out of his car and pushed to the pavement by a mini swarm of Miami-Dade’s finest during a traffic stop, gone wrong. Apparently, Hill was speeding, and during the ensuing traffic stop, back and forth between him and officers resulted in his [faux] arrest. When the news broke, NFL analysts were in full-blown “we don’t know what happened yet” mode
but many onlookers of a certain background already knew what was happening. When the body cam footage was released, debate sparked about what each side could have done better, and Tyreek himself said he could’ve handled the situation differently.

At the end of the day, if you were just giving the man a speeding ticket, then the ego trip and performative arrest only serve to embarrass and remind certain folks of their “place”. Now, Tyreek made light of the situation by reenacting it in his touchdown celebration during the Dolphins’ win over the Jaguars, but we all know what’ll happen if he starts taking a knee.

Your sports term of the week is: encroachment

❝

Such flowery language for such a brute sport. Anywho, in football, encroachment occurs when a defensive player crosses the line of scrimmage prior to the snap, and makes contact with an offensive player or interferes with the snappage of the ball. This results in a dead play and a 5-yard penalty.

Think of it like this: It’s like fighting with a sibling, and your parent is in the middle, holding you guys on separate sides. If you go past your momma to slap your sib upside the head, then that’s encroachment.

As much as we love when stars pop up at sporting events
we also love when our fav athletes pop out into the streets! Move aside tunnel fits
New York Fashion Week has a few athletes stepping up their game (see what we did there?). You know who didn’t come to play with us? Our favorite athletic “it” couples:

First, the Boston Celtics’ Jaylen Brown and the WNBA’s Kysre Gondrezick.

We LOVE Kysre’s seductive look for a date night, but we also love Jaylens’s look for those who prefer to keep it a bit more PG with a little less skin showing. We found some goodies that were inspired by the couple:

Another fav athlete couple we spotted during NYFW is American Tennis player Frances Tiafoe and girlfriend, Canadian tennis player Ayan Broomfield.

This denim look from the couple is very reminiscent of the early 2000s. Very on trend!

And when the two duos linked up? Fashion was given!

don’t mind us. We’re just over here drooling over this Fall 2024 color palette. The browns, blacks, and greens -what’s not to love? It’s giving sultry and sophisticated
which is right on time for cuffing season, no?
