🏆 This Week’s Superlatives 🏆

Best Season Debut: One of our favorite tennis girlies, Coco Gauff, started strong by defending her title as the Auckland Open Champion and finished strong by winning in 3 sets against Ukrainian tennis player, Elina Svitolina. You go, Coco; good luck as you head into the Aussie Open

Worst Season Finale: As we wrapped up the final games of the NFL regular season, the worst performance has to go to the Carolina Panthers. We would say more… but they didn’t do much. Tbh, there are a few more (dis)honorable mentions in this category, including:

  • The Jacksonville Jaguars – we were all rooting for you, but you lost to the Titans (Titans 28 (W) v. Jaguars 20).

  • The Philadelphia Eagles –luckily for the Eagles, they were already playoff-bound because after such a strong start to the season, they fell flatter than Will Smith’s last movie, Emancipation. Did you watch it? Exactly. Chile, maybe it’s a Philly thing.

Talk of the Town

This week our recap is all about football, y’all.

Wild, Wild, Wild

We are officially in the NFL postseason & it’s Wild Card Weekend. This weekend, the number one divisional seeds, Baltimore Ravens (AFC) & San Francisco 49ers (NFC), will take the week off while the rest of the teams fight for their lives. Ok, that’s a tad dramatic, but they will be fighting to secure spots in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs.

Can’t miss weekend match-ups

Want to catch a game, but can’t commit to all six? Here are two we recommend and why we’ll be tuning in.

AFC: Chiefs v. Dolphins

Brr, it’s cold in here: With a loss to the Buffalo Bills, the Miami Dolphins fumbled the bag and missed their chance to secure the number 2 seed in their divisional conference, ensuring home-field advantage. Womp womp. Now, the Dolphins are headed to Kansas City to face off against the Chiefs in what is expected to be 0-degree weather. We hope they remember to bring they lil coats. Catch the game on Saturday, January 13, at 8 pm EST.

NFC: Lions v. Rams

Well, this is awkward: So, you know that awkward moment when you see your ex-boo while you’re out with your new boo? That’s the Detroit Lions & LA Rams.  They have a little bit of a messy history with their quarterback swap, and each team has something to prove… which typically makes for a pretty good game. Watch on Sunday, January 14, at 8pm EST.

The latest in the NCAA

University of Michigan v. University of Washington: Basically, all you need to know here is that Michigan won the National Championship Game (M 34 v. W 13), and not even a year of scandal could hold them back.

Taking a bow: University of Alabama head coach, Nick Saban, announced his retirement after a legendary 17 seasons, citing age and health concerns. He led the Crimson Tide to six championships during his tenure.

Girrrrrrl…did you hear about so & so?

🏈: It’s looking like the Red Wedding (IYKYK) around the NFL as we see a shuffle of head coaches across the league. Most notable amongst the carnage, is the departure of the New England Patriots head coach, Bill Belichick. Bill leaves the Patriots after 24 seasons and 6 Super Bowl titles with the team. The split was said to be a mutual decision, but we all know someone had to bend the knee. With plenty of vacancies around the league, where will they all land? Stay tuned for the next episode of Game of Thr…NFL.

🏀: In the NBA, Draymond Green has re-entered the chat. Earlier this week, Green was reinstated by the league following a 12-game suspension. The Golden State Warriors’ forward was suspended in December after an incident with Jusuf Nurkic during the Warriors matchup with the Phoenix Suns. The league and fans have all had plenty to say on the subject. But, one thing is for sure: everyone is watching, so Dray Dray better keep it clean!

🏒: Ice isn’t the only thing cold in the NHL. The Philadelphia Flyers traded former first round draft pick Cutter Gauthier to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Jamie Drysdale and a second round pick in the 2025 draft. This trade comes after months of Gauthier giving the Flyers the cold shoulder and refusing to talk to anyone from the team. When asked the reason why he no longer wanted to join the Flyers in Philly, Gauthier said it’s personal. We bet the Philly fans took it a bit personally too, Cutter. It’s giving…tantrum.

Now You’re Speaking My Language: Your Sports Term of the Week

In light of the upcoming Australian Open, let’s talk about a “let.” 🎾🎾🎾

In tennis, a serve is called a “let” if the ball touches the net, but still lands within the service court. The serve doesn’t count as a fault and is replayed.

So, it’s kinda like when you LET some borderline shady comment slide because their heart was in the right place.

Sports, But Make It Fashion

The Jags may have lost, but they sure looked goodt before they did it!

We spy Louis, Gucci, and a cardigan from French fashion brand, Ami Paris. Which player’s drip do you like best?
