Athletes get their leather looks off before it gets too hot outside, and the Playoffs continue across the NBA and NHL.

🏆 The Superlatives 🏆
The Most Valuable Sports Team: The Dallas Cowboys
According to Sportico, the Dallas Cowboys are the world’s most valuable team, valued at $9.2B. Now, you may be confused by this, seeing as the Cowboys have not won a Super Bowl since 1996. In fact, out of the top five most valuable sports teams in the world, only two have won their version of championships in the last ten years.
So, let this serve as a lesson. You, too can fail for almost 30 years and still be valuable. Demand it all sis, you deserve it!
The Least Expensive Sports Team: The Unnamed Utah Hockey Team (Formerly known as the Arizona Coyotes)
Earlier this year, the Arizona Coyotes were the least valued sports team in all of the American Leagues with a valuation of $675M, according to Sportico. However, the NHL recently approved the sale of the Arizona Coyotes to new owners for a new franchise in Utah for $1.2B. Proving once again that you should never let anyone tell you what you’re worth. Period.
🏀 The NBA Playoffs Continue: The first round of the NBA playoffs is almost done, but there are still a few stragglers who can’t decide if they’re ready for vacation. Here are some interesting highlights thus far.
Knicks vs. Sixers
The Knicks are still battling it out with the Sixers. The Knicks are up 3-2, but after a Game 5 win, Tyrese Maxey might’ve breathed some life into his fellow Sixers’ limp bodies. Just imagine…🎥
It’s the final seconds of Game 5. The Knicks are up by 6, and the Sixers’ season is on the line. In flies Tyrese Maxey with an S on his chest to save the day. He proceeds to score 7 points in the last 28.9 seconds and single-handedly sends the game into overtime. Now, between you and me, it seemed like the rest of his team was saying, “Don’t save us; we don’t wanna be saved,”...but we’ll see if they recovered or not tonight in Game 6.
Bucks vs. Pacers/Cavaliers vs. Magic
Hardly anybody is watching the Bucks vs. Pacers or Cavs vs. Magic series because the powers that be keep sticking their games on NBAtv…and, let's be honest, who’s paying for that? Oh, but of course, there are other contributing factors:
1. All-stars Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard have bowed out and left their teammates to fend for themselves (aka they’re injured).
2. Nobody has watched the Cavs since LeBron left in 2010…oh wait, that was the first time…we meant 2018.
But if you’re interested, the Pacers defeated the Bucks 4-2 in their series, and the Cavs lead the Magic 3-2 in their series. Watch Game 6 tonight, Friday, May 3rd, at 7 pm on ESPN.
Clippers vs. Mavericks
The LA Clippers and Dallas Mavericks are still battling it out, and the Mavs are up 3-2 in the series. In Game 4, the Mavs were up 2-1 at home and got dealt a brutal loss by the Clippers, minus Kawhi. Kyrie Irving was working double time and almost single-handedly brought his team back from a 31-point deficit. But poor little Tink Tink’s 40 points weren’t enough to overcome the deep hole they had dug, and the Clippers won the game 116-111. He did all that work for nothing and could have just saved his energy for Game 5.
But it seems the rest of the team (who did no work on the previous group assignment) said they would “do it for Kyrie” in Game 5…well, at least Luka did. The Mavs bounced back and won Game 5, 123-93. So here we are at Game 6, which will take place tonight, May 3rd, in Dallas at 9:30 on ESPN.
@bleacherreport Luka feels like he’s been letting Kyrie down with his play in the playoffs #luka #lukadoncic #kyrie #kyrieirving
The rest of the series has wrapped up, and everyone you’d expect is moving on: Celtics, Thunder, Timberwolves, and the Nuggets. And for those of y’all who can’t do the math, that means the Heat, Pelicans, Suns, and the Lakers have all gone on vacation. Bye-bye until next season, guys!
🏒 High Sticks: Round 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs is coming to a close, and we've already got some teams swapping their sticks for golf clubs.
The New York Rangers swept the Washington Capitals in four games with a Game 4 score of 4-2. Unfortunately for the Caps, that wasn't even the most embarrassing part, because the sweep was led by the head coach they fired last year for not making the playoffs.
It took the Florida Panthers five games to send their in-state rivals, the Tampa Bay Lightning, home for the summer, and nothing says HAGS louder than a 6-2 win. Good job, Panthers, but honestly, why are there TWO hockey teams in Florida?
Double Trouble! The Colorado Avalanche and the Carolina Hurricanes took down the Winnipeg Jets and New York Islanders, respectively, with series-winning Game 5 scores of 6-3. Seems like climate change comes for us all.
The Edmonton Oilers finished off the Los Angeles Kings for the third straight year. Stick with me for a quick countdown now. The Oilers took the series in seven games in 2022, six games in 2023, five games this year with a score of 4-3 to advance to the 2nd round in the chase for one Lord Stanley. Could be a coincidence, could be nothing.
Feeling FOMO for missing all that excitement? There's still some games left in the tank before we close the books on Round 1.
The Vancouver Canucks are up 3-2 in their series against the Nashville Predators and are looking to end it tonight (Friday) at 7 PM EST.
The Dallas Stars are in a similar boat against defending champs, the Las Vegas Golden Knights, but this one's for the night owls at 10 PM EST tonight (Friday).
(If the Bruins didn't win) The series-deciding Game 7 for the Bruins and the Leafs is tomorrow (Saturday) at 8 PM EST. Tune in to see if the Leafs are trying to start a 19-year streak of making it to the 2nd round or if last year was a blip.
⚾ The Twins Stay Winning: After sweeping the Chicago White Sox in a three-game series on Wednesday, May 1st, the Minnesota Twins now have the longest winning streak of their franchise history. The Twins have won ten games straight, but some speculators (read low-key haters) believe that it’s only because they have played teams that aren’t necessarily very good so far this season. They have played the White Sox 7 out of the 10 games they have won, with the Los Angeles Angels being the opponent of the other 3…so it’s a valid point.
The test of that theory will come when the Twins play the Boston Red Sox on Friday, May 3rd, at 8:10 pm EST on MLB.tv
🎾 It’s all Fun and Games Until… the players start sticking up for themselves! So, this week, fans around the world have continued to lose their minds and harass the talent from the stands. In Madrid, American tennis player Danielle Collins piped up after a fan disturbed her third-round match and basically told them to put up or shut up! Now, this isn’t the first time Collins has told someone to “shut their mouth,” but at least this time it was a fan and not a fellow competitor.
🏀 Meanwhile, LeBron James had to jump stupid at a fan for heckling him from the crowd. She clearly wasn’t about that life, and LeBron cackled at how she couldn’t back up whatever she was saying. It’s nice that he could find a reason to laugh amidst all that losing his team was doing. Regardless, these fans need to remember that they are precisely that, fans. If they keep [messing] around, they’re gonna end up finding out. What a shame. Bet these players are starting to miss those COVID-19 empty stadium days.
🏀 You Can’t Sit With Us: Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin took to X (rip Twitter) to put us all on notice that he and the owners of the Philadelphia 76ers bought 2000 tickets for Game 6 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philly to block Knicks fans from taking over the arena like they did during the last matchup in Philly for Game 4. The 76ers’ player Joel Embiid expressed his frustration when he noted that he saw more Knicks fans vs. 76ers fans in the stands during the game.
Well, the Philadelphia owners teamed up with Rubin to make sure that didn’t happen during Game 6. The group acquired the tickets and plans to give them away for free to first responders, healthcare professionals, and other Philadelphia-based organizations (as long as they were rooting for Philly, of course!). Guess the presence of the fans didn’t really matter because they still lost Game 6… at home with all of their fans watching. Go 6ers!
Josh Harris, David Blitzer, @david_adelman and I just bought more than 2,000 tix for Sixers Game 6 - we absolutely CANNOT let Knicks fans take over our arena again!!! Giving them to first responders, health care professionals and other local Philadelphia-based organizations once… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

Your sports term of the week is: offensive foul.
In basketball, an offensive foul is a foul committed by the offensive player (the team with possession of the ball). The two most common offensive fouls are charges and illegal screens. They usually result in a change of possession of the ball.
IRL Example: It’s like when you’re having a civilized disagreement, and you run out of arguments, so instead, you decide to go on the offensive and get personal. It’s lowkey wrong, and you automatically lose the argument.
It may be getting hot outside, but this spring's leather trend is just as hot! During the 2024 Spring Fashion Week, brands like Chloe, Louis Vuitton, and Gucci had timeless leather pieces in their Spring - Summer 2024 collections. Now we’re seeing the trend go from the runway to the courts (okay, more like arena hallways), and some of our favs have tapped into the trend.
Philadelphia 76ers, Tyrese Maxey, showed us that he may like to flop around on the ground when he’s “fouled,” but one thing he doesn’t do is serve a look that flops, ok? Maxey boo showed off his legs in a pair of these SSENCE leather shorts that he paired with a black top and a black leather jacket that he accessorized with this hat from Valas Los Angeles.
Celtics player Jrue Holiday kept it a little more modest in a cropped ankle leather pant that he paired with a crisp white shirt and fresh white sneakers giving us a very chic & classic look altogether.
Whether you’re feeling modest or edgy, we found a few options for you in case you want to tap into this trend as well, including:
This cropped faux leather jacket on Zara:
These leather effect belted shorts from Mango:
These faux leather pants from ASOS:
and these faux leather cropped wide leg pants from Nordstrom Rack:
We suggest wearing leather pieces on your way to a very well-air-conditioned space. Like an air-conditioned car to a well-air-conditioned restaurant for brunch. It’s getting hot out there, so stay cute, but also keep it safe girlies!
